Theatre snobbery. Should theatre exclusively do what only theatre can do?

Summary of discussion, conclusions and/or recommendations:

We discussed the value of West End theatre. Some feel that it is art created for the wrong reasons; producer-led. Some feel that it is doing exactly what more theatre should do; engaging audiences in a way that makes people see theatre in the same light as music or football.
